Beautiful and Traditional Haven – Jeju

A traditional haven for many Korean vacationers, Jeju definitely has an abundance of hotel and accommodation options. With the influx of foreigners learning about the island’s delights, you’ll never be short of places to stay.

Jeju Island Road Trip Itinerary
Manjang Grotto

The cause of Jeju’s dramatic landscape.

Jeju Island is filled with geological wonders formed by volcanic activity 2 million years ago. Your first port of call and a must-see attraction is the stunning network of lava tubes and caves – officially the largest and most spectacular in the world. They are part of several UNESCO natural heritage sites on Jeju Island and are scattered throughout the island.

Perhaps the most famous is Manjanggul, which is located in Geumnyeong-ri, about a 30-minute drive from Jeju City along Highway 1132, which circles the island clockwise. It’s definitely one of the must-see attractions – so don’t miss it. Admission is 2,000 KRW for adults and 1,000 KRW for children.

Continue along the coastal road and you’ll soon come across another natural wonder – known to outsiders as Sunrise Peak. As you may have guessed, this is a beautiful spot to watch the sun rise – a stunning volcanic formation rising from the sea and another UNESCO site on Jeju.

Crater-style structures open one hour before the famous sunrise, KRW 2,000 for adults and KRW 1,000 for children

Folk Village Museum
Driving along the coast road again, you’ll pass some of Jeju’s best beaches, where locals and foreigners alike can soak up the sun. But it’s time to learn about some culture, so visit the Jeju Folk Village Museum in Minsokhaean-ro for an educational and informative experience in a hands-on environment.

Jeongbang Waterfall
Just one of several amazing waterfalls and features on the island, Jeongbang is a great stopping point before heading home. Located on the beach, it is arguably the most famous waterfall in Jeju and is a popular waterfall for many visitors.

Mt. Hanna
The beauty of Jeju National Park is not to be missed.

Hikers look no further! A must when visiting these shores is to spend a day at Mt. Hannasan National Park, which is located right in the center of the island. A dormant shield volcano, the mountain itself is begging to be climbed, and it is one of the country’s most famous and iconic landmarks.

Turn north, bisecting the country, to reach the edge of the park so you can enjoy the spectacular and beautiful scenery that has been formed over millions of years. Entry to the park is free.

Loveland
You got it.

Ending on a different (and not just a little adventurous) note, visit the (un)famous Loveland – Korea’s artistic (and controversial) homage to love and sex. You’ve never seen anything like it, and it happens to be right on your way back to Jeju City from Highway 1139. Not for the young or easily offended!
